Well, Pidgin still supports this ancient protocols with plugins, but the protocols Pidgin can use out-of-the-box are Jabber/XMPP, Bonjour, Gadu-Gadu, IRC, Novell GroupWise Messenger, Lotus Sametime, etc. And with plugins it supports communication with software like Discord, Telegran, Facebook Messenger, Skype, WhatsApp or Signal.

Shouldn't the entry be updated? And shouldn't a messenger be suggested anyway that can use the Matrix protocol (like Element or Schildi-Chat), which is used more and more often at Fedora events?

"It is used for handling email and newsgroups without the calendaring functions that Evolution provides." Thunderbird has had an integrated calendar function (the former Lightning extension) for some time (since version 78). The sentence should be changed.
